Lancaster, Pennsylvania (August 1, 2010) -- geographIT
® sponsored a student to attend the annual Washington College Geographic Information System (GIS) Program's Summer Camp. The one week camp, held June 20-26 at the college campus in Chestertown, Maryland, provided junior and senior high school age students classroom instruction, field trips, and the opportunity to select one of four "pods" to focus on specific areas of interest: Crime Studies, Tree Studies, River Studies, and Google Sketch-up. At the end of summer camp, each pod was required to make a formal presentation to their peers about what they learned and how they utilized geospatial technology on their project. "We view the GIS summer camp as an excellent opportunity to expose young people to different ways geospatial technology can be applied to solve real world problems while being given the opportunity to enjoy the varied recreational activities offered at camp", said Ashis Pal, President of geographIT. The sponsorship pays the fees for individuals who would not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in the summer camp. To learn more about the 2010 Washington College GIS Summer Camp, visit:
