Database Design

geographIT's experience in spatial and relational database design and development sets us apart in our ability to assist you with modeling your data, and our work with leaders in the GIS field ensures that standards we recommend follow industry standards.

Developing a well designed database to store information about your business can save you time and money. The resources required to maintain data in a properly designed database are a fraction of the cost of leaving your data in an unorganized or semi-organized format. A good database design considers the following questions:

How is your data being used?

What are the sources of your data?

Who needs to have access to your data?

How do they need to access your data?

What are the requirements for your data?

These are the important questions that lead to a secure, flexible, maintainable and high performing functional database that can be used to store many types of information. Some of these data sets may include: spatial or geographic data, content for a data-driven web site, an internet application or a desktop application.

While our capabilities are not specific to any one commercial DBMS, our implementation and design capabilities is inclusive in a variety of commercial RDBMS products such as ORACLE, Informix, Microsoft SQL Server, MS Access, MySQL and PostgreSQL.  We are also experts at designing ESRI's ArcSDE and personal geodatabase environments.
